Since stepping away from the role, Billie has often admitted she misses the role, which she starred in for two years.

She said: "Dr Who is a big part of my life. I've missed it since I left and I love David Tennant."

The 25-year-old was convinced to return to the show by her mother.

She told The Mirror: "My mum is the biggest Dr Who fan ever. I feel bad about not being in this year's Christmas special with Kylie Minogue."

Meanwhile, Billie is also set to reprise another familiar role - she will again play Sally Lockhart this Christmas in the BBC adaption of a second Philip Pullman book.

Last year Billie starred in Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke, and will appear in the follow up drama The Shadow in the North.
