'Botox' Barry: Has Manilow had help holding back the years?

Perhaps the startled look on Barry Manilow's remarkably smooth features came after he caught sight of himself in a mirror.

The slightly scary-looking version of the 64-year-old singer amazed guests at an Aids charity gala in New York when he appeared with a wrinkle-free complexion that you could almost hear squeak.

While his hair may be less bouffant and his permatan a shade less orange, the impeccably-groomed Manilow nevertheless managed to look more like a man half his age.

Inevitably, the taut skin and wide-eyed look prompted speculation he may have had a helping hand in turning back the clock.

It was a striking contrast to his appearance five years ago when the Copacabana singer had crows' feet around his eyes and a touch of grey at the temples.

Four years ago Manilow - who still draws in the crowds with weekly concerts at the Las Vegas Hilton - was thought to have undergone a complete facelift.

He was spotted leaving a Beverly Hills clinic in a disguise which included a woman's wig, oversized sunglasses and a baseball cap.

Manilow became a star during the 1970s, selling more than 75million records, and recording hits such as Mandy and Weekend in New England.

At one stage he had five albums in the charts simultaneously and his boyish good looks beamed out from the covers.

His more recent albums have struggled in comparison but Manilow's youthful appearance at Thursday night's gala dinner shows the singer has little intention of accepting an inevitable decline.
