Boys' night out for Prince William as Kate flies abroad

Prince William was last seen tenderly caressing Kate Middleton after guiding her around a pheasant shoot.

But as soon as his girlfriend left the country he took the opportunity to have a night out with the boys.

Kate, 25, flew to Barbados with her family yesterday and last night William, also 25, spent the evening at Tramp in St James's with his minder and a friend.

Time to go: William looks tired after a night out in Kate's absence

As he left the club, heading towards a waiting car, his sleepy demeanour and steadily closing eyes were in marked contrast to the macho countryman image of the day before.

However, Tramp was a rather more dignified choice for a night out compared with the young royals' usual haunts of Boujis and Mahiki.

Founded in 1969, it is one of the world's most exclusive members' clubs and is more fashionable with the older generation rather than the excitable younger crowd.

Although William and his girlfriend have decided to spend Christmas apart, they are reportedly closer than ever, with Kate spending more and more time at his residence in Clarence House.

The fact she accompanied him on the shoot in Windsor Great Park - a Christmas present from the Queen - was a clear statement of their commitment to each other.

And although the pair will be apart for Christmas, they are planning a reunion on New Year's Eve.
