Brad Pitt: Walked out on film after script concerns
Sources say Pitt, 43, was unhappy the movie did not follow his vision and his sudden departure has left the film's schedule in limbo. Filming was set to begin on November 15.
U.S. reports claim Universal Studios are considering their legal options and may even sue the actor.
Hollywood trade paper Variety reports Universal would have the option to sue Pitt if they cannot find a suitable replacement.
Sources claim Johnny Depp or Russell Crowe are in the frame to replace Pitt in the role of political consultant-turned-journalist Cal McCaffrey.
Pitt's exit has led film bosses to fear the other big names attached to the project could follow suit.
