Bride No3 for Nigel Havers

Almost three years after the death of his adored wife Polly - the woman he called his "soulmate" - actor Nigel Havers, I can reveal, is to marry again.

The handsome star of The Charmer will wed the glamorous divorcee who consoled him in the months after Polly lost her long battle with cancer in the summer of 2004.

She is Georgiana Bronfman - born Rita Webb - a former au pair from Essex and the former wife of one of America's richest men. The couple, both 55, will marry in New York in July.

It will be the third time each of them has married, although Havers will be only the second husband for Georgiana - known as George - because she was twice divorced from billionaire drinks magnate turned media tycoon Edgar Bronfman.

Havers's daughter Kate, by his first wife, Caro Cox, and Georgiana's two daughters with Bronfman will be at the wedding. The couple are then planning parties for friends in London and the South of France. They are also looking for a new home in central London.

The news has delighted the Chariots Of Fire star's friends, who credit Georgiana with rebuilding Havers's life after the shattering loss of Polly, for whom he had turned down film offers to devote himself to her care.

"Nigel's not much good on his own and they get on terribly well, so getting married seems common sense," says one pal.

Last night Havers told me how he proposed to Georgiana during a party in front of guests including Guy Sangster, Old Harrovian son of the late racing figure Robert Sangster, last month.

"During dinner, while George was out of the room, I mentioned to Guy that I was going to ask her to marry me and he asked: 'Why don't you do it right now?' So I did and George couldn't really say no. Thankfully, she didn't."

Smoothie Havers adds: "She's a wonderful girl and I really am very lucky. This really is going to be it for me. I have always been the marrying kind and we enjoy doing the same things, and now we can do them as man and wife.

"The wedding details are down to George, but it will be somewhere quiet. In America you get a justice of the peace and you can do it anywhere. George's daughters will be helping too.

"My daughter Kate is over the moon about it and will be flying out for the ceremony. We'll have a party when we come home."

Although the couple are not technically engaged - "I don't think you get engaged when you are over 50," he says - Georgiana is wearing a stunning diamond ring Havers bought her a few months ago.

Meanwhile the actor, who is said to be the biggest box office draw for provincial theatre after the success of his nationwide tour in the play Rebecca, is planning to take six months off.

"I'm going to put my feet up, take it easy and enjoy my new life," he tells me.
