Bringing sexy back: Now Gwyneth graces premiere in a plunging AND backless jumpsuit

After a fortnight of red-carpet appearances distinguished by her racy choice of shoes, actress Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed another area for intense scrutiny.

Gwyneth showed off her, modest bust and her highly-toned back in a plunging tuxedo-style jumpsuit at the premiere for film Iron Man in Los Angeles last night.

It was an unusual choice for a red-carpet affair, and yet another departure from her former dowdy earth mother style for the 35-year-old blonde actress, and mother-of-two.

Bold front: Gwyneth Paltrow provides another talking point as she graced the red carpet in a plunging, halternecked jumpsuit last night in Los Angeles

The legs of the midnight blue halter necked jumpsuit were so long, that on this occasion Gwyneth's biggest talking point of late - her shoes - were completely covered.

But with its plunging neckline, and low-cut back, her latest red-carpet salvo still gave onlookers plenty to look at.

Gwyneth accessorised her sexy outfit with some stunning jewellery, including a single sapphire and diamond column earring, an emerald and diamond-encrusted cuff and a pair of ruby and diamond rings.

Lot of front..and back: Gwyneth can't decide which is her best side, so shows off both her modest bust, and her highly-toned back off in this 70s style midnight blue jumpsuit

However, it wasn't entirely successful, as the ill-fitting flared-leg jumpsuit appeared rather rumpled, and was slightly too revealing of her rather modest bustline.

Gwyneth joined her co-stars Robert Downey Jnr, Terrence Howard and director Jon Favreau at the screening at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Downey Jnr was accompanied by his wife Susan Levin and Favreau by his spouse Joya, while Gwyneth was alone as usual as Coldplay singer and husband Chris Martin, stayed away.

The American film star spent last week tottering around Europe in a collection of towering stilettos up to seven inches high during a tour to promote the movie.

She said recently: "They were just fabulous. They were very tall but they weren't hard to walk in.

"I'm a very capable heel walker but I had trouble with my knee while I was making the film and sometimes on stairs it hurts."

In an interview with Jonathan Ross to be screened on Friday, the actress who is known to be a strict vegan, revealed she actually loves fried food.

She told Ross: "I was seriously macrobiotic for four years. When I got pregnant, it changed. I couldn't go near anything healthy. I love anything fried – fish and chips – Branston pickle, red wine."

Meanwhile, Selfridges are hailing "The Gwyneth Effect" as sales of super-high heels have soared in the last week.

The department store said that there was a 35 per cent increase in sales of six and seven-inch heels - which even it admits are "fetish shoes" - in the past seven days.

Fashion-conscious customers are said to be ditching the ballet pumps and buying heels so high - so-called "taxi shoes" - the wearer cannot walk more than a few yards.
