The people's Pavarotti: Opera singer Paul Potts, winner of TV show Britain's Got Talent is said to have signed a £1million record deal with Simon Cowell's Syco record label
The album is set to feature a string of opera hits — including Nessun Dorma, the classic aria that won him the show. Cowell has already had success selling classical music to the US, with Il Divo one of the best-selling classical groups.
Winner Paul has also received plaudits from other major stars, including Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox and Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins, who has promised to duet with him at a festival in Wales.
Katherine, who is from Port Talbot said: "I'm very happy that he won because he's from Port Talbot, which is the next town to mine."
Paul revealed he had a new fan in former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox. Paul said: "I saw Annie Lennox the morning after I'd won and she said she'd seen my performance and wished me well."
Following his showstopping performance on the TV talent show, Paul has been inundated with requests from US television stations to sing. He has agreed to perform on the Today show on NBC tomorrow morning.
Paul will sing from the world famous Rockerfeller Plaza — following in the footsteps of major artists including Bon Jovi and Enrique Iglesias.
According to the Sun, a Syco source said: "We've had a huge amount of interest in Paul from the US so it only seems right we should release his music over there.
"They know all about the show because they have their own version America's Got Talent, which is their biggest show at the moment."
Former Carphone Warehouse manager Paul, 36, said: "I'm over the moon — I can't believe any of this.
"Simon's been true to his word, this has given me the most amazing opportunity. None of this has sunk in yet."
Millionaire media mogul Cowell promised the Paul a record deal in front of 12.6million ITV viewers after he won the talent show on Sunday.
After winning the £100,000, the 36-year-old mobile phone salesman said he will use some of his prize-money to get a smile like programme judge Cowell.
He said: "I'd like to deal with the teeth because I do feel very self-conscious about them," he told the Mail.
"It'd be nice to feel less self-conscious and to be able to smile with confidence."
Later this year, Potts will sing in front of the Queen as part of the celebrity line-up for the Royal Variety Performance.
