Britney on rehab: 'I hit rock bottom'

Britney Spears has spoken out about her high profile meltdown and stint in rehab earlier this year, saying: "I truly hit rock bottom."

The troubled pop singer posted a heartfelt message to her fans on her website, describing herself as "overwhelmed" and "lost" before checking in to the Promises clinic.

However, Spears' recent behaviour suggests that she's still struggling to pull her life back together: new reports claim the she was recently caught vomiting in a men's bathroom during a night of partying at a an LA club.

Still, she appeared composed during her latest shopping trip in Beverly Hills, but as usual, her fashion choice again raised eyebrows - her thigh-baring nude outfit resembled a flirty negligee.

A day earlier, she used her fashion to make a clear statement to the photographers: she was snapped her wearing a hat and ring with the expletive F*** emblazoned across them.

In her online message, Spears opted for a sweeter approach.

She said that following her divorce from Kevin Federline last year: "I was so overwhelmed I think that I was in a little shock too. I confess, I was so lost."

"Til this day I don't think that it was alcohol or depression. I was like a bad kid running around with ADD."

She added: "I know everyone thinks that I am playing the victim, but I am not and I hate what is going on right now so much. Maybe this is the reason for this letter... to maybe allow people to look at me differently. "

The 25-year-old played down her hard partying ways, and discussed the intense media scrutiny that followed her post break-up.

She added: "I think it is actually normal for a young girl to go out after a huge divorce. I think it was a bigger issue because I had not gone out in such a long time. I am 25 and I do still have a lot to learn, and I am going to make mistakes everyday, and I am sure every mistake I make will probably be on CNN or Good Morning America. I am only human people and I love you for still loving me."

She asked for understanding from her fans: "I just hope this letter made some of you think a little bit more of me and where I am coming from. I just want the same things in life that you want...and that is to be happy."

The singer has been working to rebuild her career with a series of small comeback shows, and she is also working on tracks for her next album, the first of original material in almost three years.
