She is starring as one of England's greatest-ever monarchs in Elizabeth: The Golden Age but last week she could not hide her pride – or the more obvious signs that her latest role will be that of expectant mother.
Confirming her pregnancy to journalists in Sydney in her native Australia, Cate Blanchett smiled and posed for photographers, revealing her increasingly noticeable bump.
The 38-year-old beauty, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for the 2004 film The Aviator, is married to playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton.

Baby bump: Cate Blanchett gets ready for her new role as mother-to-be
The couple, who live in Brighton, are moving back to Australia to work as artistic co-directors of the Sydney Theatre Company.
They have two sons, Dashiell, five, and Roman, three, and the new addition is due next April. Both Dashiell and Roman were born in London and raised in Britain, so the new baby Blanchett will be their first child born on Australian soil.
Cate said: "It's fantastic. Our family came over to London when our previous two children were born, so we have always had that family-friends connection, but the prospect of having that experience at home is really exciting."
Cate has royal pedigree. She played the elf queen Galadriel in the blockbusting Lord Of The Rings trilogy, as well as the monarch in the successful first Elizabeth movie.
