Rebecca Ferguson: Being Scouse saved me from Simon Cowell

Former X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson claims her Scouse roots allowed her to stand up to Simon Cowell and take control of her career.

The 25-year-old runner-up signed to his Syco label, with her album Heaven selling more than 500,000 copies.

But she says the label tried to push her down a pop path.

In an interview in tomorrow's ES Magazine, she said: "When I was asked to do something I said: 'I'm from Liverpool, do you think I'm stupid?' "
