Colin Montgomerie leaves golf clubs at home for romantic Venice honeymoon with new wife Gaynor

Rule one for a perfect honeymoon? Pick somewhere really romantic. Rule two? Leave your golf clubs at home.

That, at least, seems to be the thinking behind Colin Montgomerie's trip to Venice with his 41-year-old bride Gaynor.

Montgomerie, whose passion for golf helped destroy his first marriage after 14 years, appeared to be bearing up well despite the sudden separation from his clubs.

Perhaps the new Mrs Montgomerie's broad smile had something to do with the fact that even if he fancied a game, the nearest golf course was at least an hour away.

Montgomerie, 44, doesn't have too long to wait, though.

He competes in the Spanish Open on May 1.
