Kate Winslet has long criticised Hollywood's size zero obsession and now she has proved curves really are hot property.

The stylish actress dazzled in a strapless black gown, which was cinched at the waist by a stylish satin bow, as she sashayed along the red carpet at a New York gala.

Kate, who thrilled fans as she stopped to sign autographs, arrived alone with her husband Sam Mendes opting to sit the night out.

Still, she wasn't short on good company.

An A-list crowd turned out at the affair to mark the Motion Pictures Annual Awards, including Jennifer Garner, Julie Christie, George Clooney, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, who was honoured with a lifetime career achievement award.

Meanwhile, Kate is rumoured to be preparing to replace Nicole Kidman in Stephen Daldry's post-World War II drama The Reader.

Kidman pulled out of shooting on the drama, which was scheduled to begin filming this month, after falling pregnant.

Kate recently finished filming Revolutionary Road, which will sees her back on the big screen alongside her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.
