Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam records and the inspiration behind Public Enemy, LL Cool J and Jay Z, wants a voluntary ban on the three words "bitch", "ho" and "nigger".

Speaking through his Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, Mr Simmons said: "The words 'bitch' and 'ho' are utterly derogatory and disrespectful of the painful misogyny that, in particular, African American women have experienced in the United States.
The word 'nigger' is a racially derogatory term that disrespects the pain, suffering, history of racial oppression and multiple forms of racism against African Americans and other people of colour."
He also recommended forming a coalition on broadcast standards where entertainment industry executives would draw up guidelines for lyrics and video imagery.
His remarks have caused a debate about political correctness in America.
Many welcomed the move but others denounced it as a token gesture that would not end misogyny or racism, only alter the vocabulary with which it is expressed.
Mr Simmons said: "This is a first step. It's a clear message that we want the industry to accept more corporate social responsibility."
