Flying solo: Jayne Torvill, picture here with skating partner Christopher Dean on Sunday night's Dancing on Ice, will perform alone on this week's show
He will appear on the weekend's Dancing On Ice as a mentor but will not perform his usual dance routine with Torvill, 50, at the opening of the ITV show.
Dean said: "It'll be odd for me to see Jayne skate on her own - I'll be itching to get out there on the ice with her.
"But the injury's in no way career-threatening so while this Sunday I'm leaving Jayne in the capable hands of the skating partners, I want to reassure viewers that I will be back on the ice very soon."

She said: "This week will be odd to be out there on my own. I might feel a bit lonely.
"But Chris has choreographed my routine and I swear he's given me one that's harder than ever."
An ITV spokesman said: "Christopher Dean is undergoing surgery this week to treat a recently-aggravated knee problem.
"While Chris will back on the show on Sunday, he will be off the ice for at least a week to regain full fitness."
Torvill and Dean were crowned Olympic ice skating champions in 1984, scooping gold in Sarajevo.
Last week, GMTV reporter Michael Underwood broke his ankle, while Samantha Mumba, who was voted off this week, Aggie MacKenzie and Suzanne Shaw have also been injured.
