Devastated Spider-Man actress Kirsten Dunst 'checks into rehab'

Seeking help: Kirsten Dunst, pictured in Santa Monica last month on her most recent public outing, is the latest star to check into rehab
Spider-Man actress Kirsten Dunst has allegedly become the latest Hollywood star to check into rehab.

The 25-year-old has checked into the Cirque Lodge in Sundance, Utah, according to America's Star magazine.

Her decision to seek help follows her recent relationship breakdown with Razorlight frontman Johnny Borrell.

The pair split in August after an intense six-month relationship, with a source saying it was the catalyst for her downward spiral.

A source told the Mail online: "Johnny flatly told her he was heading back to London and didn't want to see her or talk to her anymore. Kirsten took this really hard, was emotionally devastated, and stayed inside for days, crying.

"On the urging of her doctors, she started taking anti-depressants, which helped her get back on her feet and meet some professional commitments."

It is claimed that the star then began mixing heavy nights of drinking with her prescription medication, much to the concern of her friends and family.

The source told Mail online: "These last months have been really rough for Kirsten, and she just checked out instead of facing her problems head-on."

A source told Star: "She desperately needed help.

"She not in a good place right now, but thankfully, she's getting the help she needs."

Dunst, who started her film career at the tender age of eight with a small role in Tom Hanks' movie Bonfire of the Vanities, is well-known in Hollywood for her hard-partying.

Internet blogger Perez Hilton nicknamed her 'Kirsten Drunkst'.

Claims about Dunst follows recent patient Latina actress Eva Mendes, who checked out yesterday after seeking treatment at Cirque for unspecified issues, according to Life & Style magazine.

Famous patients at Cirque last year included Lindsay Lohan, who spent nearly two months at the Lodge following her arrest for driving under the influence, and Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora.

Cirque Lodge describes itself as one of America's "most exclusive drug treatment centres in a private mountain setting", and also offers treatment for alcohol abuse.
