It's Drew Barrymore, according to US magazine People, who gave her top honours in their annual list of the World's Most Beautiful People.

The actress, who recently starred in Music and Lyrics, was chosen as the cover girl for the publication's latest issue.

Most beautiful: actress Drew Barrymore has topped the list

The title "made my peacock feathers shine in the golden-hour light and extend to the heavens," the quirky star told the magazine.

Despite her glamorous red carpet look, Barrymore revealed she actually feels most beautiful after exercise.

She said: "Right after I've worked out and I'm sweating all over the place and my face is two different colours of white and red and my hair is half wet, half dry and I look like I'm about to have a heart attack. I feel like I've changed the shape of my body temporarily into something more flexible and strong."

Despite her new crown, Barrymore says she still sees flaws in herself.

She added: "For some reason, since I turned 30 this little crew comes in the middle of the night and they sew little sausages under my eyes!"

Barrymore beat out other impressive contenders for the top spot, including actresses Scarlett Johannson, Jennifer Aniston, and Halle Berry who all featured on the list.

Patrick Dempsey - also known as Dr McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy - and Hollywood hulk Matthew McConaughey also made the grade.
