Eau de X Factor: Show bosses bottle the scent of success in new moneyspinner

Television bosses behind hit talent show X Factor have come up with yet another money-spinning idea to part fans from their hard-earned cash - by launching his and hers perfumes named after the ITV show.

Fremantle Media are encouraging viewers who already spend money on concerts, singles and voting for their favourite contestants each week to buy the show's branded fragrances, X Factor Him and X Factor Her.

Fans of the show, which has produced chart-topping stars such as Leona Lewis and Shayne Ward, can buy the scent of success in 30ml bottles priced at £12.99 each.

The X Factor perfume promises wearers "part of the excitement and glamour of becoming a pop star", according to manufacturer ScentUps.

The men's version smells of lemon, bergamot, lime, apple and pineapple, while the women's has a floral scent.

X Factor owner Fremantle Media had done a deal with ScentUps to make the fragrances which will be launched on the high street this week through The Fragrance Shop.

Scent-sational: X Factor star Leona Lewis has already got plenty of the elusive quality - but for those who don't , maybe the perfume will help

A spokeswoman for The Fragrance Shop said: "Since the talent show phenomenon first launched there has been massive debate about just what constitutes the X Factor and more importantly who has it, and now it's been bottled for everyone."

It is the latest in a long line of scents with celebrity associations but it is thought to be the first named after a British TV show.

The perfume market is crowded with celebrity perfumes including scents by Jordan, Jade Goody, Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez.

Programme bosses said more X Factor branded products may follow, including sweets, toiletries, and make-up.
