Farah Fawcett's cancer returns

The actress now faces another battle against cancer

Farrah Fawcett has been told her cancer has returned three months after she was given the all-clear.

The actress had surgery and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in September.

Doctors in Los Angeles told her on her 60th birthday in February that she was clear of the disease, leading her to say: "This is an extraordinarily happy day for me and my family."

But a routine check-up this week revealed the existence of a small cancerous polyp.

Miss Fawcett's former partner, Ryan O'Neal, told the U.S. TV entertainment show Extra she was "coping" and asked fans to pray for her. Jaclyn Smith, who appeared with Miss Fawcett in Charlie's Angels in the 1970s, said: "She is handling it like everything in her life - with a positive attitude."

Friends of the actress said she will not have further chemotherapy. Instead, she has opted to have a metal pellet implanted in the cancerous area.

This will emit radiation and, it is hoped, will destroy the polyp. Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani successfully underwent similar treatment when he was found to have prostate cancer in 2000.
