Fergie and Bea ... stepping gingerly along the catwalk

What they lacked in poise and elegance, they more than made up for with their enthusiasm.

Introducing Fergie and Beatrice, the real royal supermodels.

The 47-year-old Duchess of York and her 19-year-old elder daughter took to the London catwalk at Fashion for Relief, a fundraiser for Gloucestershire flood victims.

In matching black Dolce & Gabbana gowns, with ginger hair flowing, they looked - from a distance anyway - like sisters.

At one point Fergie pretended to trip, to the hilarity of an audience which included Kate Moss, Sting, Claudia Schiffer and the show organiser Naomi Campbell.

Princess Beatrice later told the Mail: "I was really nervous but it was fun."

After the event, which closed London Fashion Week, Fergie and Beatrice clearly felt the need to celebrate in style.

Following a visit to the fashionable Mayfair restaurant Cipriani, they headed to the Mahiki club.

It was 3.30am when a wellrefreshed duchess and princess emerged, clearly looking forward to a good night's sleep.

Earlier in the evening, a cheerful Princess Beatrice gave a huge grin as she was caught back stage at London Fashion Week resembling Nora Batty - the broom-wielding pensioner in the hit TV series Last of the Summer Wine.

Most young ladies in the limelight wouldn't be seen dead without perfect make-up and immaculate hair.

But Princess Beatrice clearly enjoyed being photographed with rollers in her auburn locks as she prepared for her stint on the catwalk.

The pair were pictured in their impromptu guises while getting ready to appear in Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief Show at the Natural History Museum.

But while they may have looked a tad silly at the time, the hours of grooming certainly paid off.

Princess Beatrice took to the catwalk next to her mother Sarah Ferguson wearing an estimated £4.75million worth of Garrard gems.

Hand in hand, they strutted along the catwalk wearing identical floor length Dolce & Gabbana black dresses and Manolo Blahniks.

Miss Ferguson wore a £4.5m Cleopatra sapphire necklace whilst Princess Beatrice showed off a £250,000 regal sapphire necklace.

Despite being novices to the catwalk both Miss Ferguson and her eldest daughter appeared to revel in the limelight.

But not all of the guests were as excited by the show. Kate Moss looked bored and twiddled with her hair as the royals walked down the catwalk.

While Naomi Campbell, who organised the event in a bid to raise funds for the British flood victims, wore a series of outfits throughout the show including a black puffball velvet and satin dress.

The night, filled with the good and the great of the fashion world included singer Sting and wife Trudie Styler who wore a backless blue satin Julian McDonald gown.

Speaking just moments before the show Miss Styler said: "I am very pleased fashion has been used for such a good cause".

Veteran actress Faye Dunaway, 66, made a rare appearance for the event. Even gamely wearing bizarre blue headgear while being pinned into a tight black dress.

And also in attendance, beaming with delight with her daughter's attempt to raise money for the flood victims, Naomi's mother Valerie Campbell said: "I am very proud of my daughter. She has done a fantastic thing trying to raise money for those affected by the flooding a few months ago".

Other guests included Claudia Schiffer who wore a black Chanel dress and Elle McPherson who opted for Victoria Beckham jeans and a black Victoria Beckham t-shirt.
