For sale at £3m: the flat where Hugh Grant met Bridget's big pants

A bachelor flat featured in the hit film Bridget Jones's Diary is up for sale - for more than £3 million.

The three-bedroom flat, which overlooks the Thames near Borough Market, was home to Hugh Grant's character Daniel Cleaver in the 2001 comedy.

Owner Antoine Blondeau bought it after filming had taken place and so had no idea the property had been used until he went to see the movie.

"The first I knew about it was sitting in the cinema enjoying the film with my wife. Suddenly I was thinking, 'That's my flat'. We were amazed," he said.

Scenes shot in the flat include a clinch between Bridget, played by Renee Zellweger, and Cleaver, the man of her dreams. As he undresses Bridget, Cleaver discovers she is wearing huge "tummy control" knickers.

Later, Bridget discovers a naked woman in the bathroom. Mr Blondeau, 38, said: "It is highly amusing to know that Hollywood stars like Hugh Grant and Renee Zellweger have been in our flat. We loved the film but didn't bother buying the DVD - we didn't need to because we had the flat."

The property, in a converted 19th century warehouse in Clink Street, is on the market with Savills for offers over £3.2 million.

Mr Blondeau, who has moved to Hong Kong, said: "I am selling with a tad of regret but whoever buys it now can enjoy being a part of cinema history."

The 3,722 sq ft, split-level flat has three en-suite bedrooms, a double aspect reception room with a view towards Tower Bridge, a balcony and private parking.

Adam Richards, who was location manager for the film, said: "We wanted something in that area because the exterior of Bridget's flat was filmed just around the corner in Bedale Street and some of the scenes where she meets friends in a cafe were filmed in Tate Modern nearby.

"The flat was perfect because of its lighting and the height of the ceilings."

Bridget Jones's Diary took more than £41 million at cinema box offices in Britain alone.
