Former Top Gear 'Stig' stopped by police for driving dodgem

Ben Collins, better known as the ex Stig of Top Gear fame, had a brush with the law on the weekend when driving a fair ground dodgem to London.

The inaugural Kettle Ridge Crisps Dodgem Derby took place on Saturday and saw six competition winners take to the roads, in a rally from Wallop to London led by Collins.

The rally began at one of Europe's fastest race circuits at Thruxton, where each driver got behind the wheel of their dodgem for the first time and Collins gave a crash-course in dodgem driving.

The fleet left the start line at Wallop and after a leisurely drive through the country roads of Hampshire the teams arrived at their first pit stop challenge at Micheldever Tyre & Auto Services where their wheel changing skills were put to the test in a time trial.

Back on the roads Team Flamed Steak, lead by Collins drew the attention of the local constabulary after some irregular parking.

After explaining to the police officer exactly what they were doing and why they were in dodgems, Collins escaped with no charge.

Eventually the derby arrived at Daytona Motorsport Sandown Park and the teams swapped their vehicles for go-karts as they got to finally race against the former Top Gear driver.

The teams were surprised to see Notting Hill star Hugh Grant down at the track for a day out with his mates.

Although the derby racers did not actually get to race against Hugh, he did wish them luck.
