Sleep trouble: George Hamilton was kept awake by Kim Woodburn
The Hollywood star was seen making his exit last night after 18 nights of rice and beans and just days before the final of the ITV1 show.
Ladies' man Hamilton received a phone call from his girlfriend Barbara while on the programme and decided he did not want to miss her before she returned home.
Hamilton was asked on GMTV about his sleep problems caused by bunking down near feisty queen of clean Woodburn.
He told the show: "I would go (to bed) first because I knew she snored and I thought if I can just get to sleep then I'm perfectly all right - but I'd get to sleep and I'd wake up and she'd say 'George, you're snoring'.
"I'd go 'What, what,' and then for the next two hours I'd have to listen to her.
"So it got worse and worse and I didn't want to say this to anyone and I got to a point where I had no sleep whatsoever.
"And I would say to her 'Maybe I ought to take the bed...'.
"'Oh no, you'll stay right there'.
"So I thought, oh my God I'm in here, sealed hermetically in this caravan with all kinds of creatures ...
"(It) got to the end of it, I just walked in, there were all these spiders on my bed, I would say 'Move over'. I didn't care. It was perfectly all right."
He added: "Kim was a wonderful woman and we bonded and we had a great time."
Telling how he missed his girlfriend, he said: "Barbara and I were talking and Barbara's only going to be there until Sunday so I thought if that's the case, I'll come live with you and I'll never work again ...
"I thought she's come all the way out here and I'm not even going to see her."
Hamilton said he also gave up jungle life as he did not want to compete against his new pals.
He said: "We had such a group feeling and we're all team players.
"I just thought I don't want to go head-to-head with young Stuart (Manning), he's a great guy, I didn't want to go with Gino head-to-head - or any of them...
"I thought better to get out while I'm still alive and go home and see Barbara and I did the right thing."
Hamilton added: "I figured why confuse this? These are guys that all have homes in Great Britain... it means a lot to them. And I just loved the experience, so I thought step out of the way, let them have it."
Hamilton was asked about his declaration that Gino D'Acampo deserved to be king of the jungle, despite also bonding with former Hollyoaks actor Manning.
The actor said: "I think Stuart is Gino's apprentice. Stuart learns from everyone ... But Gino has this ability to organise every one of us and we all learned from Gino. If it came down to the last three, I'd certainly like two of them to be Gino and Stuart."
Hamilton joked he had been "starving to death" in the jungle and said he was "thrilled" with a final meal of pasta cooked by chef D'Acampo.
Hamilton is the third star to quit, with dancer Camilla Dallerup and Katie Price having already walked out of the show.
In other developments, former Mis-Teeq star Washington got tongues wagging when she picked Hollyoaks star Manning to go on a Bushtucker Trial with her.
Woodburn joked "This young couple can't be parted" while Justin Ryan added: "Maybe this is the romantic thing they've been waiting for."
Washington and Ryan were told last night they had received the fewest votes from the public when phone lines closed earlier.
Lines reopened after the show with the public voting for which of the pair they want to keep in the camp.
Votes already cast still count towards the total.
