George Michael 'to bid for £50 million Hirst skull'

George Michael is considering making a £50 million offer for Damien Hirst's latest artwork, a diamond-encrusted skull.

The singer and partner Kenny Goss were given a private viewing of the piece, which is covered in 8,601 diamonds, it was revealed.

The former Wham! star collects Hirst and owns art worth £100 million.

The price-tag shouldn't prove too far out of Michael's reach, as his sell-out Wembley concert's last weekend were attended by 75,000 fans.

The new stadium, which saw its first two concerts in seven years over the weekend, was hailed a success by the audience.

One fan said: "It was mobbed at the front, right under the stage, but further back there was a lot of space. There were people doing silly dances and even cartwheels.

"For those of us who had been to the old stadium, you could see the difference - the facilities were so much better, and although the space was bigger at the new stadium, it also has a more intimate feel to it."

The 90,000-capacity stadium reopened earlier this year after a £793million development and the former Wham star is said to have pestered the venue's management to be the first singer to perform there.

The star played two concerts - on Saturday night and last night. He forked out tens of thousands of pounds so about 6000 nurses could attend last night.

Michael has already played a free concert for NHS nurses because of the care they gave his late mother, who died in 1997.
