Girls Aloud swap their raunchy stage gear for an angelic new look

They're certainly no angels - judging by their usual sexy outfits, more like fallen ones - but Girls Aloud cast aside their skimpy clothes for more traditional garb as they took part in a nativity play for a television show.

An angelic looking Cheryl Cole donned all-white and a pair of wings for her part in an irreverent take on the nativity for Channel 4 show The Friday Night Project, which was filmed as part of a Christmas special.

Group members Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle also looked unusually well-covered as the three became Wise Men, bearing gifts for the baby Jesus, as portrayed by comedian Alan Carr.

With a very hairy Justin Lee Collins standing in as the Virgin Mary, he was accompanied by Kimberley Walsh as Joseph of Nazareth.

The girls clearly enjoyed their new roles, and appeared to be having some difficulty keeping straight faces - especially Sarah and Kimberley who were almost unrecognisable behind their fake beards.

Sarah recently revealed she's no stranger to wearing a costume - and she wasn't talking about onstage either.

At the UK premiere for the new St Trinian's movie, the blonde singer revealed she enjoys dressing up in the bedroom too.

Miniscule hemlines and tiny waists: Fans are used to seeing Girls Aloud in sexy outfits

The girl group make a cameo appearance in the comedy remake and also feature on the film's soundtrack.

She told the Daily Star: "I love all that stuff, dressing up in costumes - whether it's schoolgirl stuff or nurse outfits or a maid's.

"It's all good fun and I love being bossy. It's really empowering. And it gives me a really strong feminine feeling."

She added: "It's all just a bit of a giggle isn't it? And not to be taken too seriously."
