Hard-living Johnny Vegas divorces wife over HER drunken behaviour

He has a reputation as something of a drinker himself.

Yet it was the "aggressive and abusive" behaviour while drunk of Johnny Vegas's wife which ended their marriage, he claimed in court papers.

The comedian's tempestuous five-year marriage to Kitty Donnelly ended formally in the High Court in London yesterday.

The way they were: Johnny Vegas and his now ex-wife in happier times in 2003. The estranged pair's divorce was finalised today

Vegas, 36, stated in a sworn affidavit that the main reason for his separation from Miss Donnelly was that he found it difficult to deal with her "irrational and unpredictable behaviour".

"The petitioner came to the conclusion that his marriage was in fact at an end on 3 September 2003, when the petitioner returned home after a long day at work," said the affidavit.

"The respondent had been drinking and was aggressive and abusive to the petitioner throughout the entire night."

Vegas and Miss Donnelly have lived apart for more than two years and had both agreed to a divorce.

The pronouncement was made under the comic's real name of Michael Pennington.

They married in San Francisco in August 2002 after meeting in a pub. However, they ended up having a row on the flight home. They have a son Michael, now four.

Vegas, who found fame with a Monkey puppet in the popular TV adverts for ITV Digital, sold the exclusive photos of the nuptials to Viz comic for £1.

The couple are said to have found the months immediately after the youngster was born "tough".

The couple twice reunited briefly to live together in their home in North London for three days at the end of March 2005 and five days that August, but they have lived separately since then.

Kitty still lives in the Muswell Hill house, while Vegas's address was given in court as St Helens in Merseyside.

Vegas was recently reported to be looking for a base in Muswell Hill to be close to his young son who he "dotes on".

The comedian has joked of his young son: "He's starting to resemble me in personality but I don't want him to grow up to be a tortured comic genius. I want him to be vain and end up owning Trump Towers."
