Heartbreak for Connie as Simon Cowell pulls out of record deal

When six-year-old Connie Talbot wowed the audience in a TV talent show, judge Simon Cowell described her act as "pure magic".

Her stirring performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow prompted the pop mogul to suggest a record deal was on the cards and he predicted she could make "£1 million-plus this year".

However, less than two months on, Connie's dreams have been crushed after Cowell's music label Sony BMG decided she was too young for a recording career.

Yesterday her distraught mother Sharon, 38, said: "It was a shock. Connie really could not understand and asked me: 'Does Simon not like my singing any more?'

"They have left her with nothing. We have been told Simon and his management team think she is too young but she is the same age as when she first appeared on the show."

Connie had nothing more than a karaoke machine to hone her skills before her appearance on Britain's Got Talent in June. She was beaten to the top prize by opera singer Paul Potts.

There is not thought to be a minimum age limit for producing music records but performers under 14 should be properly educated as well as work restricted hours.

Cowell said his views on Connie remained the same. "When the time is right I will be delighted to see if we can make it work," he said.

Connie's family are still hopeful of a record deal. Her father Gavin, 40, said another label had put in a bid to record with her.
