Flanked by some of the biggest stars on the planet, David and Victoria Beckham found themselves the centre of attention during their first full weekend in California.
The dizzying occasion was a party thrown by their friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to welcome them to Tinseltown.

Indeed, among that sort of company, the Beckhams' wealth and celebrity hardly even registered.
Cruise - Hollywood's most successful actor (£35 million per film) - had flown in especially for the bash from a filmset in Germany.
Posing with the Beckhams in a picture surely destined for their new Beverly Hills mantlepiece, came party hosts Cruise, his wife Batman Returns actress Holmes, Will Smith (two Oscar nominations, £20 million per film), and his wife Jada, also an actress and star of the Matrix trilogy.

Victoria appeared to be wearing an extraordinarily high pair of heels and had also clearly not been in prior consultation with Jada, as their outfits clashed terribly. Others noticed how Cruise looked to have mysteriously put on a few inches to be closer to his wife's height, despite her heels.
Inside, they rubbed shoulders with Bruce Willis (£50 million per film), Wesley Snipes (£6 million per film), Jim Carrey (£13 million per film), George Clooney (one Oscar win, one Oscar nomination, £10 million per film), and Oscar-winning directors Ron Howard and Stephen Spielberg.

Intriguingly, it transpired that a great portion of the celebrity guests were on the books of LA uber-agency CAA - the very agency the Beckhams are the new signings for.
It was also noted how some 100 of the 600 guests were from Hollywood's Scientology elite, which set tongues wagging about the Beckham's involvement with the controversial religous sect.

Earlier they had toured the museum hand in hand for 15 minutes and quite publicly stole a few kisses as they viewed the exhibition 'Art and the Feminist Revolution', which chronicles the 1970's feminist art.
According to a source the Beckhams were quite taken with a Yoko Ono video on show.
Cruise and Holmes followed and looked less impressed - one onlooker noted how a jetlagged Cruise occasionally appearing to stifle the odd yawn.
But then it was probably not the company that brought on that reaction - more likely the fact that he had just stepped off a 10,000-mile flight.
