Home Brit, Home

Britney Spears has put her Hollywood mansion on the market because it is "jinxed" and holds too many bad memories.

In the zone: the star is adding to the mansion's allure by posing in her sitting room

The star, 26, has told friends she can no longer bear to stay at the £4m property as it reminds her of nights of drink and drug-fuelled depression.

But after a successful run of recovery, she wants more privacy.

She's so keen to sell that she is even appearing in the sales catalogue herself - giving potential buyers a glimpse of her as homemaker to add allure to the six-bedroom, 7,500sq ft home.

All the clutter and chaos familiar to any young mother is visible in the photos: a child-proof gate, a changing mat and toy Jeep - but also bespoke leather furniture and books on sculpture.

The estate agents selling Spears's home in the suburb of Studio City describe it as an "exquisite gated Italian Renaissance-inspired villa" with six bathrooms, three garages, a bar, a library and a "grand entrance foyer" as well as the inevitable pool and spa. A neighbour said: "No-one will be sad to see the back of Britney. It's not been peaceful."

The singer has lived in her hilltop house for less than two years. But for all its features, the mansion is not paparazzi-proof, and Spears is rumoured to be viewing homes an hour's drive north of LA. A friend said: "Having more privacy has been a goal for some time."

Despite worries the housing slump could affect her asking price, Spears was pictured out last night in good spirits and sporting a black Pulp Fiction-style wig to promote new single Womanizer.
