'I don't want to be a celebrity,' says Lily Allen

She's posed for magazine photoshoots and regularly makes promotional television appearances, but now outspoken pop singer Lily Allen says she is sick of the media glare.

In a MySpace post she wrote: "I don't want to be a celebrity, I am a singer, I write songs, that's it."

The rant was a clear change of mood for Allen, who had earlier turned on the charm during an angelic appearance at MTV's TRL programme in New York.

In the message, titled "F*** Off, F*** Off", the star complained about gossip reports that claimed she arrived late for her performance at New York City's Roseland Ballroom earlier this week.

She said: "I would never turn up two hours late for a gig... EVER. I'd been in my dressing room since four o'clock that afternoon anyway it's not as if I'd leave 3000 people out there for no reason."

Allen insists that she does her best to avoid celebrity behaviour: "I don't sleep and take drugs with famous people (I have a boyfriend I've been with for nearly 3 years), I don't go to film premieres. I don't go shopping in the paparazzi hotspots, so please leave me alone."

Allen says the constant attention has made her rethink her website posts: "The thing is, I'm not going to write here so often now. this used to be one of my favourite things to do. I could come on here and vent how I feel honestly and get feedback from you guys. But the tabloid f***s have ruined it."

Last month in a MySpace message, Allen experienced a high profile meltdown, calling herself "fatter and uglier" than Amy Winehouse, and threatened to have liposuction.
