Is that you Charlene? Kylie goes back to her girl-next-door look for new advert

She's usually pictured vamping it up in outrageous outfits, but singer Kylie Minogue returned to her girl-next-door look in an ad for a Spanish jewellery firm.

The stunning 40-year-old appeared to be channelling Charlene Mitchell - who she played in Australian soap Neighbours for two years - in the campaign with her shoulder-length curly hair and demure clothing.

'Kylie represents our values because she shows herself as a strong woman and she always sets the trends,' says Rosa Tous, the creative director of the family-owned firm.

Minogue first shot to stardom playing mechanic Mitchell in the popular soap from 1986 to 1988.

She was heralded as the ultimate girl next door but eventually ditched her clean-cut image a few years into her music career and reinvented herself as an edgier pop siren.

The singer is still very fond of the show that launched her career and has confessed that she would consider a cameo return.

'There are still people there from my time in the late 80s and I do miss it. I wouldn't rule out appearing on it again one day,' she revealed in an interview The Sunday People newspaper.

Minogue recently confirmed that she will finally be bringing her critically acclaimed KylieX2008 tour to Australia.

She will hold a week-long series of shows at Rod Laver Arena in December.

'The reason I hadn't confirmed dates in Australia is I really didn't know what I was getting into,' Minogue told the Sunday Herald Sun.

'But now I know. I have a show that breathes and changes and is dependent on people's moods and environment.

"I can't wait to bring it home.'

Minogue's tour promoter, Michael Gudinski, will announce dates this week with the venue already booked for the first week of December.

The star, who battled breast cancer two years ago, will hold a limited number of shows before enjoying Christmas with family in Melbourne.

'As far as my health goes, I do two shows in a row, then have a day off,' she said.

'Sometimes after two shows I think, "Well, I could (do) one tomorrow . . .'" But, I'll quit while I'm ahead.'
