It is Ramsay's ultimate kitchen nightmare... Marco back on TV

ITV today announced that celebrity chef Marco Pierre White has signed an exclusive three-year deal.

White will make several one-off specials and series and go head-tohead with his former pupil Gordon Ramsay, who has a similar contract with Channel 4.

White, dubbed the godfather of modern British cooking, said: "For the last 20 years I've been asked to take part in numerous programmes and have always said no. This deal will give me the opportunity to share my knowledge and to inspire people to want to cook whether professionally or at home."

It comes after he successfully fronted ITV celebrity series Hell's Kitchen. Simon Shaps, ITV director of television, said: "Marco is a complete original and made Hell's Kitchen his own. We are delighted to have signed him."

Other programmes announced today at the launch of ITV's winter season include aNew Year's Eve show filmed live at the O2 Arena featuring Take That and the Sugababes.

The channel also announced a new drama series in which viewers vote to alter storylines - despite being hit by a series of phone-in scandals.

Viewers of Rock Rivals, a drama set in an X-Factor style talent show, will be able to vote by telephone for various endings.

ITV was found guilty of "widespread and systematic deception of millions of viewers", and an investigation into more than 60 programmes by Deloitte discovered "serious editorial issues".

But ITV boss Michael Grade sent out a clear signal that he would keep the faith with shows involving viewer voting.

Previously tainted shows including Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice have been confirmed in the line-up.
