It's over: Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong call off romance

Kate Hudson and Lance Armstrong have called off their whirlwind romance after just three months.

The previously inseparable couple split over the weekend, according to American magazine Us Weekly.

A source told the publication: 'There was no drama or ugliness.  They just decided to end things. There is no hatred, just sadness.'

The pair first began seeing each other during a visit to the Bahamas in May, right after she broke up with the troubled actor Owen Wilson.

Their romance quickly became serious, with the pair spending Father's Day in the U.S. together with their children from previous relationships.

Hudson also introduced him to her actress mother Goldie Hawn at a California restaurant earlier this month.

Lance, 36, who has turned his attention to anticancer charity campaigning since retiring from cycling, had already developed a reputation as a playboy following a string of high profile romances.

After his two-year relationship with the singer Sheryl Crow ended in 2006, he swiftly moved on to fashion designer Tory Burch.

Then he was spotted canoodling in New York's Gramercy Park Hotel Rose Bar nightclub with Ashley Olsen, who is 15 years his junior.
