Jedward miss out on No.1 spot

Irish twins John and Edward Grimes, whose quirky dance moves and off-key singing proved a surprise hit on this year's X Factor, have narrowly missed out on their first number one with their debut single.

Almost there: Jedward just missed out on the top spot

The 18-year-olds, better known as Jedward, entered the top 10 at number two with Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby), a version of American rapper Vanilla Ice's 1990 hit.

With their spiky haircuts and kitsch outfits, the pair divided viewers and judges on the music talent search programme.

They survived repeated public votes to stay in the contest for nearly two months before losing to Essex singer Olly Murs in a showdown. Joe McElderry eventually won the series.

American pop group Owl City held on to the number one position with Fireflies, according to chart compiler the Official UK Charts Company. There were no other new entries in the top 10.

U.S. R&B singer Alicia Keys held on to the top spot in the album chart with The Element of Freedom.
