John Barnes gets the boot as Kelly Brook manages to samba to survival

The former England and Liverpool star and his partner Nicole Cutler lost out when pitched against Kelly Brook and partner Brendan Cole in a samba dance-off. It had been Barnes's fifth time fighting for survival at the bottom of the table, the previous week seeing off Kate Garraway.

After the first dance, Barnes and Brook were joint bottom of the leader board each with 27 points out of 40. But by far the worst critical mauling was reserved for Barnes.

After his first performance on Saturday evening, Arlene Phillips laid into him for gazing at the floor throughout a lacklustre performance: "He's having a love affair with the floor and not you Nicole.

"I'm not feeling the heat from this partnership. Everything from the waist down works brilliantly on you John but you've got to get this (upper body) together."

Bruno Tonioli added: "It was a murmur, it was casual, it didn't have the impact, the fun. It looked like you were rehearsing in the corridor, looking at the floor. Eventually you've got to come out with the goods."

Craig Revel Horwood said: "I'm slightly concerned that you do continue to look to the floor when we're constantly saying please look up.

"This is a party dance you can enjoy. Timing – fantastic, but the energy unfortunately is only in your legs and your feet and not in the upper body."

The judges came to a unanimous decision after the dance-off. Craig said: "I have to save the best dancers and they were Kelly and Brendan".

Bruno added: "It gets harder every week but I have to go for the best dancers who will give more in the future and that's Kelly and Brendan." Arlene and Len agreed.
