Johnny Cash home razed by ring of fire

The house where Johnny Cash wrote some of his biggest hits has been destroyed in a blaze. All that is left of the building is the brick chimney and steel frame.

The cause is unknown but flames spread quickly because construction workers had just applied an inflammable preservative to the wooden walls.

Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, lived at the lakeside home in Hendersonville, Tennessee, from the Sixties until their deaths in 2003.

It featured in the film Walk The Line about Cash's life. Barry Gibb bought the house last year and was having it restored. He was said to be "devastated".

Cash's hits included Ring Of Fire and I Walk the Line. He wrote Folsom Prison Blues and songs for the live album recorded at San Quentin at the house.
