Jordan gets on her high horse to attack 'snobbish' polo ban

But with all her experience as a successful author, businesswoman, rider and mother  - and of course glamour model - Jordan has learned not to let a snub pass without comment.

Barred from the Cartier Polo International tournament - seemingly for being 'too chavvy' - she hit back yesterday with a carefully considered swipe at the establishment.

Branding polo culture as 'class-ridden' and accusing the powers-that-be of 'snobbery' it was a well-timed knock that may well have the organisers of last weekend's event ruing the day they ever turned down Kate Price, as she now prefers to be known.

Price has certainly turned a negative into a positive.

And what irony that her biting words came alongside the pundits and politicians of The Times' comment pages.

Miss Price's own thoughts on the ban came after several days of media discussion about why she was deemed unsuitable for the event, while other less than A-list celebrities and figures of somewhat dubious past were not.

The mother-of-three was told she was 'not the kind of person they wanted' when her manager tried to book a £6,000 table in the marquee hosted by nightclub Chinawhite in Windsor Great Park.

According to Chinawhite, it was simply an unfortunate misunderstanding.

But the whispers that Miss Price, who is worth £50 million and has written a string of best-selling children's stories about ponies, was 'too chavvy' would not go away.

Since the model has been learning to play polo she was particularly put out.

Writing in the comment column she made clear what she thinks of the snub.

'It's pure snobbery,' she wrote. 'However good a horsewoman I may be, I'm also a glamour model.

'Eliza Doolittle went to the races with Henry Higgins after a few elocution lessons, in Pretty Woman Julia Roberts went to the polo straight from Sunset Boulevard, but in the 21st century we have become even more class-ridden.

'Unless you are a toff or an aspiring actress, they don't want you.

'Polo should be for people who loves horses, not a media charade.'

Miss Price, 30, certainly loves horses, and points out that she rode her first horse aged seven.

Even though were mother could not afford to send her to Pony Club, she still went to gymkhanas, determined to beat the 'smart little girls in their perfect jodhpurs and jackets'.

To illustrate her credentials she also pointed out that her book Perfect Ponies: My Pony Care Book was shortlisted for the WH Smith children's prize and that she has been invited to take part in the Royal Horse of the Year show.

'I know more about fetlocks and forelocks than most of the celebrities invited by Cartier and the Chinawhite nightclub,' she wrote. 'I've certainly mucked out more horses.'

As for a desire to mix with royalty at the glamorous event, she pointed out she had no desire to rub shoulders with either them or the A-list since she has met both enough already.

In closing she said horse should be for everyone - including 'glamour girls', 'working-class girls' and 'little girls'.

Whether the model's name has already been added to next year's invite list is open to debate.

But next time anyone thinks about excluding the redoutable Miss Price from a well-heeled event they might want to think twice.
