Jude Law has been arrested for allegedly attacking a photographer outside his west London home.

The unnamed photographer was said to have suffered minor injuries after the Alfie star tried to grab his camera.

Suspect: Jude Law was taken to London's Marylebone police station

Disturbance: Police were called to the actor's London home

According to reports the photographer was accused by Law of "being a paedophile" for attempting to take photos of his children.

The photographer said: "I was at a bus stop near Jude's house but I wasn't taking pictures of him. My camera was still in the bag.

"He was by himself when he recognised me and started accusing me of being a paedophile and that all I wanted to do was take pictures of his children. I was shocked at his behaviour."

A spokesman for Law said: "Jude Law voluntarily attended Marylebone Police Station yesterday following an alleged incident outside his house earlier in the day. Mr Law provided the police with a statement regarding his denials of allegations by a "paparazzi" photographer against him and made his own allegations concerning the photographer."

A police spokesman confirmed that officers attended the incident. "Police were called out in the Maida Vale area after reports of a disturbance and inquiries are being made."

Law was taken to Marylebone police station on suspicion of causing bodily harm and bailed to return next month.

Law has spoken in the past about his attempts to protect his children, Rafferty, 10, Iris, seven, and Rudy, four, from the public glare.

In June 2003, police had to intervene in an alleged dispute between him and Sadie Frost, who he divorced shortly after.

Law, 34, has spoken of his contempt for the paparazzi saying he "threw root vegetables at them".

Sore snapper: the photographer is tended by a paramedic

He recently returned from the Venice Film Festival where he was promoting his film Sleuth, in which he stars alongside Sir Michael Caine.

Film-maker Charles Shyer recalled that while shooting Alfie with Law, he motivated him to hit a windscreen by telling him it was a photographer.

Mr Shyer said: "Jude was going through a time when he was being besieged by paparazzi and gossip — just no privacy.

"He hit the windshield once, and it was okay. But I just went up to him and said, 'The windshield's the paparazzi'.

"And he hauled off and hit that thing so hard that he cracked it. That's not a special effect. To break it, we had to have a sledge-hammer, because it was that kind of glass, and Jude hit it so hard that he did it with his fist."

Last month, it was revealed that Law was seeing underwear model Susan Hoecke after splitting from actress Sienna Miller.
