Other guests included Twiggy, Leigh Lawson, Rosamund Pike and Rowan Atkinson.
Law, who is currently Chair of the Young Vic committee, donned cowboy boots and a T-shirt to adhere to the Texan-themed dress code that honoured the setting of the novel and play.
He was promptly ushered for photographs into the corner of a room - only to be disrupted by four firemen who rushed past the flashes to deal with a small smoke alert in the back kitchen.
Law, who left to attend the first screening of his new film 'Sleuth,' a remake of the 1970s thriller, did speak of his pride at making the Young Vic "a nurturing bed" for young directors. Shame he couldn't enjoy the fruits of his labours.
