Julie Christie returns to the stage after 12-year absence

Julie Christie is returning to the West End stage for the first time in 12 years.

The Oscar-winning actress will appear in Cries From The Heart at the Royal Court Theatre, a one-off production in aid of Human Rights Watch.

Christie, 66, last appeared on the British stage in a revival of Harold Pinter's Old Times in 1995.

After 12 years away, Julie Christie is set to star in Cries From The Heart

Cries From The Heart is an evening of performances featuring some of Britain's foremost acting talent.

Christie will be joined by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Sinead Cusack, Tom Stoppard, Sophie Okonedo, Juliet Stevenson and Dame Eileen Atkins. Journalists George Alagiah, Fergal Keane and Rageh Omaar will also take part.

Julie Christie, once a West End favourite, is set to return to the stage

Christie will read a piece based on the real-life experience of a Somali widow.

She will also read poems by Raymond Carver, Leon Laleau and Polish Nobel Laureate Wislawa Symborska.

The actress won an Oscar in 1965 for Darling.

Her film career has included acclaimed performances in The Go-Between, Doctor Zhivago, Billy Liar, Don't Look Now and Finding Neverland.
