Keira Knightley glitters at Variety Club Awards

Jude Law and Keira Knightley were crowned king and queen of the big screen tonight.

The British stars won Film Actor of the Year and Film Actress of the Year at the Variety Club Showbiz Awards.

Knightley won plaudits for her role in Atonement this year.

Law receives the gong despite only lukewarm reviews for the film Sleuth, which is about to be released.

The star is also about to appear in My Blueberry Nights.

Other winners include Philip Glenister for TV Performance of the Year for Life on Mars and Michael Parkinson for Outstanding Contribution to Showbusiness.

David and Victoria Beckham are expected to send a video message of congratulations to the TV chat show veteran.

The awards are all voted for by the Variety board, with the exception of Strictly Come Dancing which beat Life on Mars, the X Factor and Any Dream Will Do to take best TV show.

Lee Mead, the winner of the BBC talent search Any Dream Will Do, took the award for Outstanding New Talent for his debut in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Chart topping band Westlife performed during the show

Jude Law was named Film Actor of the Year at the event

Lee Evans won the award for Comedy, and Westlife best Recording Artist.

Welsh star Katherine Jenkins was named Classical Performer of the Year at the bash at the London Hilton.

David Suchet won Stage Performance of the Year for his performance in The Last Confession, while Cabaret was named best Musical Theatre, and Jerry Springer won the International award for his show on Sky One.

Knightley, Evans, Westlife, Myleene Klass, Strictly Come Dancing star Alesha Dixon and Louis Walsh were all expected to attend the event.

Mead, Jenkins, and Westlife were all performing.

The awards show will be broadcast on Sky Three on November 24 and Sky One on November 25.

The TV Show category was voted for by readers of the Daily Express newspaper.
