Kenny Logan's quickstep to the other channel

It was a switch of channels that had many viewers doing a double-take.

Shortly after 7.30pm former Scots rugby star Kenny Logan was on BBC1 in a studio "dance-off" at the end of Strictly Come Dancing.

Ten minutes later, over on ITV1, he was in Paris, reporting on the Scotland-Argentina match in the Rugby World Cup.

It came as a shock to Sunday viewers who had believed the BBC show to be live, prompting a number of complaints.

The confusion came because of a change in format for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The main part is still shown on Saturday evening with viewers then phoning in to vote for their favourites as usual.

The second part, with the result of the vote, is now recorded late on Saturday but not shown until Sunday.

Angry viewers accused the BBC of "pretending" the results section is still live, as it was in previous series.

One said yesterday: "It is insulting to our intelligence and, at a time when the BBC are supposedly conscious of their integrity, why do it?

"Surely if they have to record the results show then they can do so without referring to 'Sunday' or 'last night's dances'

Another added: "It is hardly the fault of Kenny Logan that the BBC have decided to attempt to fool the viewers."

The BBC insisted, however, that the show was never billed as live.

A spokesman said it had been made clear through the programme's website that it was recorded.

Presenters Tess Daley and Bruce Forsyth had also let it be known.

He added: "When we announced the changes everybody was fully briefed that the show was prerecorded. When the show went out it was made clear it wasn't live. Shows are pre-recorded all the time."

Mr Logan, husband of sports presenter Gabby, will have enjoyed his BBC appearance more.

While Scotland were knocked out, he won his danceoff against former Coronation Street actor Brian Capron and stays in the series.
