Kerry Katona's husband denies robbery was 'an inside job'

Kerry Katona's husband Mark Croft has been forced to deny claims the terrifying robbery at their million pound home was "an inside job".

The former Atomic Kitten star's ex-cabbie husband has been subject to rumours that he may somehow have been involved in the robbery, during which wife Kerry and their five-month-old daughter Heidi were held at knifepoint.

Kerry's publicist Max Clifford warned Croft, who now acts as Kerry's manager, accusations would be made regarding his possible involvement in the armed robbery.

In an interview with Heat magazine, Clifford said: "I said to him, 'Mark, you realise everyone is going to say that it was an inside job and it's down to you.

"And he said 'I realise that, but it's totally untrue'."

Police have so far been unable to trace the robbers and have only managed to recover their M5 sports BMW - the only car belonging to the couple not fitted with a tracking device.

Kerry has spoken for the first time about the armed raid on her home and said: "I thought we were all going to die."

The former Atomic Kitten and her five-month-old daughter, Heidi, were held at knifepoint by three masked men who burst into their house in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

Her husband, Mark Croft, 36, was marched through the property by the raiders as they stole more than £150,000 of valuables, including a brand new BMW sports catr, laptop computers, plasma televisions and jewellery.

The incident revived memories of Kerry's phobia of knives, which she told OK! stemmed from a childhood incident when she had to pull aknife out of her's mother's leg after she had a row with her lover.

Katona's two children by Brian McFadden, Molly and Lilly, were not in the house at the time.

In an interview with OK! magazine, Katona said: "It was the most terrifying night of my life. I thought we were all going to die or that they'd take Heidi away from us. I'm just so thankful that Molly and Lilly weren't in the house.

"I'm not sleeping, I'm scared to go back to the house and I get frightened when Mark leaves me alone."

The couple moved into the £1.5 million house from Katona's home town of Warrington a few months ago.

"I feel the lowest I've felt for a long time and I've had some real lows in my life. I don't mind telling you - I thought that our life in Wilmslow was the start of a new life for us away from all the trouble in Warrington and we were so happy until this happened," she said.

"I'm sick of hearing that it's the end of the bad times for me because something worse is always around the corner."

The 26-year-old former I'm A Celebrity winner checked into the Priory clinic after the attack but only stayed for a couple of days because she could not bear to be apart from her family. She is reported to be staying with family.

Katona has struggled with bipolar disorder, a form of manic depression, for several years.

She is estranged from her mother and many of her old friends, and told the magazine she had become a virtual recluse even before the raid.

"I don't have a life," she said. "I don't know why, it's just the way I've become."

Detectives are continuing to investigate the violent robbery which took place in the early hours of July 16.
