Kirstie Alley begins 'Dibley' remake

After losing more than 85 pounds last year, Kirstie Alley is back to doing what she does best - making people laugh.

The former Cheers actress is currently filming her new TV series, 'The Minister Of Divine', in Los Angeles.

Based on the BBC comedy 'The Vicar of Dibley', Alley is hoping her turn as a preacher returning to the small town where she grew up, will relaunch her acting career.

Dawn French took the lead role in the UK version.

Remakes of popular British TV shows rarely make a successful transition on the other side of the Atlantic - 'The Office' being the exception rather than the rule.

However with 'Dibley' creator Richard Curtis on board as co-producer, hopefully none of the humour will be lost.

Since Cheers ended in 1993, Alley has starred in comedies, Veronica's Closet and Fat Actress, which chronicled her battle with losing weight.
