Lily Allen makes a great blonde (shame about the tatty old skirt)

It hasn't been the easiest year for singer Lily Allen, but as she gives her personal and professional life a spring clean it appears she's experimenting with a new look as well.

The young pop star and TV presenter showed off her freshly-bleached, blonde hair when she popped into the exclusive London restaurant, Nobu.

Normally brunette, the 22-year-old has been quite outspoken against the blonde, Barbie-doll look preferred by some fellow celebrities, but now she seems to have joined their ranks.

The change was under the advice of Kate Moss — and at the hands of celebrity hairdresser James Brown, according to sources.

An insider reveals: "Lily was asking Kate what colour she should dye her hair and they came up with blonde".

The star scooped her hair up into a bun as she left the restaurant and even used a beanie hat to cover up her dramatic new look.

However, as she stopped at a petrol station to fill-up and grab the Sunday papers she showed off her new flaxen locks and a scruffy new look.

Despite preferring the polished designs of Chanel and Marc Jacobs in recent months, Lily stepped out in a ripped, frayed denim mini-skirt and Pat Butcher-style leopard print top.

Perhaps she felt she needed a change as Allen's year did not start well.

First she suffered a miscarriage, then she split from Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons in January and finally her new BBC Three show Lily Allen And Friends was panned by critics.

Despite opening to mixed reviews and disappointing ratings figures, Lily Allen's BBC chat show has been now been signed on for a second series.

The pop star has received the green light for eight more episodes of her 45-minute programme.

Lily Allen and Friends drew just 255,000 viewers for the first episode in mid-February, which fell to just 173,000 at the beginning of last month.

But the figure has since crept up to 300,000 viewers for more recent episodes.

Her love-life is also back on track.

The Smile star has appeared in high-spirits as she spends more time with producer boyfriend Robertson Furze.

As well as being a producer, Furze is also a musician and plays guitar on the forthcoming UNKLE record.

He also sings and play guitar in a band called The Big Pink.
