Lily 'thrilled' to be pregnant... but she'll have to stay off the fags

Lily Allen announced today that she is "thrilled" to be pregnant with her first child.

The Smile singer recently discovered that she and her boyfriend Ed Simons, of The Chemical Brothers, were expecting a baby, and revealed the news to her close family.

Her spokesman said today: "I am pleased to confirm that Lily and Ed are expecting their first baby.

"The health of Lily and her child is their paramount concern. As the pregnancy is at such an early stage the couple will be making no further comment, but they are obviously thrilled by the news."

Allen recently started taking her health seriously, shedding pounds after being diagnosed with a heart murmur.

The 22-year-old was pictured two weeks ago puffing on a cigarette, but her spokesperson insists she wasn't aware she was pregnant at the time.

She has long expressed hopes of being a mother, despite her young age, as she is very family-focused.

Her father, Robin Hood star Keith Allen, has six children with four women - the most recent being a daughter, Teddie, born last year.

Allen and Simons, 37, who have been together since September, will now move in together to care for the baby.

A close friend told The Sun: "Lily is a real family person. Ed's very happy. He's really looking after her. Lily could not be happier.

"It's the icing on the cake for what has been an incredible 18 months for her. She is looking forward to finishing her new album early next year and releasing it before the birth of her first child."

Allen said recently that she plans to retire at the age of 25 and move to a farm in the country - but later said she had been talking rubbish.

She is instead expected to follow in the footsteps of Charlotte Church and divide her time between music and television.

BBC3 has signed her up to front her own show, Lily Allen And Friends.

She is also joining Russell Brand to film a spoof version of Pride And Prejudice.
