Lindsay Lohan faces drugs probe after drink-driving crash

Lindsay Lohan's hard partying lifestyle has finally caught up with her.

The Hollywood star now faces an anxious wait after she was arrested and cited for driving under the influence in Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police also say they found a substance tentatively identified as "a usable amount of cocaine" in connection with the accident, according to website People.com.

The 20-year-old actress was with two other people in the vehicle when her 2005 Mercedes SL-65 convertible struck a curb and shrub on Sunset Boulevard in California.

Lohan was slightly injured.

The car suffered "major damage," according to police.

The star was hospitalised for minor upper chest injuries. The passengers were not hurt.

Lieutenant Mitch McCann, media relations officer for the Beverly Hills police department said: "A usable amount of an illegal narcotic tentatively identified as cocaine was recovered and booked."

Police would not specify where the drugs were found. The discovery of the drugs comes two weeks after a video of the star showed her allegedly taking drugs in a Hollywood nightclub.

"She was charged with a misdemeanor," said McCann. "There is a potential for additional charges."

The Los Angeles District Attorney has yet to decide on any charges. But Lohan, who is due to appear in court on August 24, could face up to a year in prison if convicted of possession of the drug.

Lohan was spotted out at the Hollywood hotspot "Les Deux" before the crash.

In recent months Lohan's behaviour has become increasingly erratic. Last July, Morgan Creek Productions chief executive James G Robinson sent an open letter to the actress rebuking her for arriving late on set, suggesting "heavy partying" was to blame.

In January Lohan checked into a rehab clinic, saying: "I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health."

She spent a month there.
