Father-of-four Michael McIntyre died from a suspected drink and drugs overdose two weeks after the brawl.

McFadden, 48, who plays Phil Mitchell in the show, said the fight started in an alley after Mr McIntyre pestered him in a pub in Falmouth, Cornwall.

The encounter, which he described as "good old-fashioned street fighting", left the actor unable to work for a week.

Mr McIntyre, 42, a painter and decorator, was found dead at his home in Falmouth of a suspected drugs and alcohol overdose.

Michael - known locally as Mickey - had a seven-year-old son who suffers cystic fibrosis, a 19-year-old son, a 15-year-old daughter and a nine-year-old daughter.

He was separated from his wife and was helping to look after a brother who has cancer.

The fight took place at 10pm on July 29 after Mickey and McFadden drank at the British Legion Club in Falmouth, where the actor has a holiday home.

A spokesman for Eastenders said it would not be commenting on the death.

She said: "This is a personal matter for Steve and we are letting him know about the situation. It is not something the show would comment on."
