Marco Pierre White hurt after sambuca stunt backfires

Fiery chef Marco Pierre White is recovering after a flaming sambuca went wrong.

He tried to drink the shot - which he had set alight - but ended up spilling it down his shirt while trying to impress friends at the Spotted Pig in Manhattan.

Things went from bad to worse when he attempted to extinguish the flames with wine - the glass broke and he stabbed himself in the hand.

It is the latest explosive incident the chef has had to contend with.

In January, his wife Mati threw wine and an ashtray at him, before upturning a table and shouting that she wanted a divorce, during a long drinking session at his restaurant, Frankie's Bar and Grill, in Knightsbridge.

Mati, 41, had been having rows with her husband over the amount of time he was spending with actress Martine McCutcheon.

She also threw his prized deer heads onto the pavement outside their Holland Park home.

So perhaps Marco felt the need for a relaxing drink while in New York, though a flaming Sambuca - a favourite of Paul Gascoigne and Prince William - is hardly a wind-down tipple.
