Memorial held for Tony Curtis

Tony Curtis has been laid to rest.

A memorial service was held at the Palm Mortuary and Cemetery in Las Vegas to celebrate the 'Some Like It Hot' actor's life, with family attending and celebrity friends including Kirk Douglas and Phyllis McGuire among the pallbearers.

His daughter Jamie Lee Curtis - who last week praised her 85-year-old father as leaving behind a "legacy of great performances" - is also believed to have attended the service, which featured a eulogy from his late wife Jill Vandenberg.

A private reception for 200 people at the Luxor hotel-casino on the Las Vegas strip is to be held later to celebrate Curtis' life.

The Oscar-nominated star died last Wednesday from cardiac arrest at his home in Henderson, Nevada.

Speaking about her husband last week, Jill - who was 42 years younger than Curtis - claimed he spent his life wanting to be a "movie star".

She said: "He died peacefully here, surrounded by those who love him and have been caring for him.

"All Tony ever wanted was to be a movie star. He didn't want to be the most dramatic actor. He wanted to be a movie star, ever since he was a little kid."

Curtis was married six times and is survived by five children.
