Michael Winner arrives at clinic for treatment on troublesome leg

Michael Winner arrived at a London Harley Street clinic for treatment on his leg in jubilant mood.

The flamboyant film director was struck down with MRSA earlier this year while already fighting a potentially deadly leg infection.

The 71-year-old is now recovering at home after undergoing 11 operations.

He told photographers his leg was "getting better" and managed to walk down the clinic steps unaided in his summer shorts, short-sleeve shirt and scarf.

In an interview last month he claimed he was as near to death "as you can ever be" four times during the illness and, as the pictures show, he has lost a significant amount of weight.

His medical nightmare began on New Year's Day when he ate an oyster harbouring bacteria that can kill in 48 hours.
